This is a need-based scholarship, which is awarded
by the KDMSF Board of Directors. Students must
originate from New Jersey, and must be enrolled in
or entering a degreed 2-year or 4-year program. To

Journalism Scholarship Criteria
College or trade school bound Hunterdon County
high school seniors must research and write a
credible human interest feature story suitable for
publication in a general circulation newspaper .The
story should be 700-750 words in length. The
student need not be pursuing journalism in college,
but should be enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year
institution. Interview notes(including hand-written
notes) along with the phone numbers of sources
must be made available if requested by the
Foundation. Judging will be conducted by an
independent juried selection process.

In order to make the selection process as objective
as possible, the judges are given a ‘blind’ copy of
stories identified by students' identification number
only. Therefore, we request that an applicant’s
name not be included as a byline or in the body of
stories submitted. Candidates may make multiple
story submissions, but only one scholarship per
applicant will be awarded.
